Bára is a normal twelve-year old girl. She has the same problems as her school-mates - with parents, with school... Especially with her parents and school, because her parents decided to move from a large town to a small one and that is why Bára has lost all her friends and why she had to change the school too. A difficult situation for a teenage girl!
But Bára has a unique secret: while searching in the attic of their newly bought, but quite old house, she discovered something strange in an old chest. A magical atlas, which takes her to the past...
The writer, Veronika Válková - famous Czech fantasy writer (see www.wetemaa.cz) and author of about ten history textbooks and didactic manuals for teachers - is a historian and teacher and that is why she sends Bára to very realistic history. In this way the reader gathers lot of information from her books. The only fantasy element in Bára´s adventures is the magical atlas and a mysterious cat Bartcha whose connection with the atlas is not very clear, but we suspect it to be a very close one...
Bára´s adventures are highly popular among teachers who read the book series with their pupils (especially 9 - 12 years old) in order to spark interest in them in history and reading.
